Punjab on Red Alert as Flood Moves Closer to Multan

Floods are hitting Punjab hard and the situation is getting worse. Authorities have put 11 districts on high alert as powerful floodwaters move toward Multan. Rescue teams are working day and night to save lives, shift people to safer areas, and protect cities from major damage.

Over 400,000 People Already Shifted to Safe Places

More than four lakh people have already left their homes. The government has set up relief camps and moved people along with their animals. Boats, helicopters, and hundreds of workers are involved. Officials say this is one of the largest rescue operations in Punjab’s history.

Punjab on Red Alert as Flood Moves Closer to Multan

Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej All in High Flood

Right now, all three big rivers – Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej – are in high flood. Many areas in Bahawalnagar, Pakpattan, and Lodhran are already under water. Villages are cut off, crops are destroyed, and the water is still rising.

The Chenab is heading toward Multan and could bring nearly 800,000 cusecs of water in the next 48 hours. That much water can drown entire towns. Authorities have identified five embankments near the city where they might break the banks on purpose to reduce pressure and save the population.

Controlled blasts have already been done near Jhang to redirect water away from homes. Officials are on high alert and are watching every movement of the rivers. Relief Commissioner Nabil Javed said their main aim is to protect people at all costs.

Controlled Breaches to Save Cities

The situation is also serious near the dams. Water in Tarbela and Mangla is at maximum level. Barrages in the south – like Taunsa, Guddu, and Sukkur – are showing high water flow. If this continues, Sindh could also face flood problems in the coming days.

So far, 30 people have died in different flood-related incidents. Many homes are under water, and farmlands are ruined. Some farmers are trying to harvest their crops early before everything is lost.

In Multan, over 300,000 people are being asked to leave their homes. Loudspeakers in mosques are being used to inform people. Relief camps have been made ready. The government says more rain is expected, and the situation is still dangerous.

Officials have requested everyone in flood-prone areas to stay alert and follow instructions. Punjab is going through one of its toughest times, and saving lives is the top priority.
