Punjab government is starting a new Electric Taxi Scheme to help people get jobs and make transport better for the future. Bilal Yasin, Punjab’s Transport Minister, said the project will begin within 15 days. It will give electric taxis and bikes to people on interest-free installments, so even low-income families can benefit. This news was shared during Pakistan’s first Transport Expo, under the Transport Vision 2030 plan.

Punjab’s Big Transport Plans
Punjab is working on many new projects for better transport. Bilal Yasin also announced:
- Lahore Tram Service will start by February next year
- First route: Jail Road to Main Boulevard
- Later, it will extend to Canal Road
- 41 new depots will be built for buses and trams
- Electric Buses will start running in December 2025
- By 2030, Punjab will have 1,100 electric buses and trams
- Self-driving buses (autonomous vehicles) will also be tested
Charging Stations Across Punjab
- To support electric taxis and buses, the Punjab government will install 1,000 charging stations.
- The goal is to change 80% of Punjab’s public transport to electric vehicles by 2030.
Sindh Also Launches Bike Program for Women
- While Punjab is working on electric taxis, Sindh has also started a new plan.
- The Sindh Workers Welfare Board will give 10,000 free electric bikes to female industrial workers.
- Sindh Labour Minister Shahid Thaheem said this will help women travel safely and easily to work.
